Director of City Planning and Development Control
The City Planning Department is responsible for managing and coordinating policy formulation, preparation of district development plans, disaster management, and monitoring and evaluation of programmes. In other words, the department strives to guide the development of the city to enhance the quality of life for the inhabitants
Socio-Economic Planning is geared towards improving the quality of life for residents by addressing social and economic issues. This section conducts research and analysis to identify challenges, such as unemployment or poverty, and develops strategies to promote economic growth and social welfare. Under this section falls the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), which is a critical component aimed at financing community-driven projects to enhance local infrastructure, empower small businesses, and improve access to essential services. this section is also responsible for forward planning, budgeting systems, project planning and management, monitoring and evaluation, and development control. The section is also responsible for coordinating disaster management and mitigation in the district.
Physical planning section is responsible for urban and regional Planning, land use, and surveying. Survey has the mandate to carry out demarcation of various boundaries and other survey works around the City. It also oversees the preparation and implementation of the Integrated Development Plan (IDP), detailed master plans, and policies aimed at orderly growth.
Building Inspectorate Section with the task to ensure that the City has the right development at the right place and at the right time. Its tasks involve scrutiny of building plans, carrying out routine inspections and ensuring that billboards are correctly placed.
