Director of Engineering Services

The Directorate of Engineering Services is charged with the supervision and delivery of public works and engineering services in the district. The department also houses the Fire and Rescue Services under which the fire brigade falls.

Fire Brigade Section

This section is a specialised Unit that provides fire rescue response to the general public. The unit provides other services such as issuing of fire licences, fire investigation reports, conduct training on fire safety and sensitization of the general public on fie services. The Units work 24 hours shift

Electrical Section

Electrical repairs and installation. the section is mandated to oversee the installation and planning of electrical system in the city, road network such as street and traffic lights and general electrical maintenance of council infrastructure in order to facilitate operations in a safe environment

Parks and Gardens Section

This section coordinates and manages open spaces as well as cutting of tall grass and trees in public spaces such as road reserves, grave yards and around markets. the section aim is to maintains parks and gardens in order to provide clean recreational facilities and beautify the city through planting of grass and trees in strategic locations

Buildings Maintenance Section

The section undertakes maintenance of municipal buildings in order to ensure clean and safe working environment. it also provides general maintenance of ablution blocks and markets

Mechanical Maintenance Section

this section ensures the maintanence of all council fleet of vehicles and plant including overseeing efficiently the operations of mechanical workshop

Road and Drainages Section

its responsible for planning and creation of road projects, pothole patching, drainage construction and desilting, road marking and signage installations. the section also Regulates the development of any structure on the road reserve

Quantity Survey Section

its provides cost estimates of building and civil projects. offer cost advise and cost control services of building project and offers material schedules and procuring lists. All this undertake is done to create value for money

Architectural Section

Provides designs and drawings for proposed projects and general management of projects forthe council to ensure adherence to architectural standards and design of municipal buildings

Rural Water and Sanitation

The unit was set up to help the rural and peri urban community access clean and safe drinking water and sanitation. the unit engages the community to advise on various sanitation matters

Chipata City Council
