The Chipata City Council has been named City Council of the Year at the prestigious ZambiaCEO Awards and the Zambian Business Awards, held at the InterContinental Hotel in Lusaka.
The recognition celebrates the Council’s outstanding leadership, service delivery, innovation and commitment to sustainable urban development.
In addition to the Council’s remarkable achievement, Mr George Mwanza, Mayor of the Beautiful City of Chipata, was honoured with the distinguished title of Mayor of the Year. The award recognizes his visionary leadership, dedication to community development and transformative initiatives that have positioned Chipata among Zambia’s fastest-growing and best-managed cities.
Under Mayor Mwanza’s leadership, the Council has implemented key development projects aimed at improving infrastructure, sanitation, waste management, local economic empowerment and overall service delivery efficiency.

Speaking after receiving the awards, Mayor Mwanza described the recognition as a collective achievement for the people of Chipata.
