Chipata City Council has emerged as the Best Performing Local Authority in Innovation Management in Africa at the recently held Africa Association for Public Administration and Management (AAPAM/AAPAA) Conference in Eswatini.
The prestigious award was received after Chipata City Council outperformed other participating local authorities from over five African countries that took part in the continental conference.
This recognition follows the successful implementation of the Council’s ICT-driven innovation, which was officially launched in 2024. The innovation has significantly enhanced local revenue collection efficiency, transparency, and accountability through the adoption of digital systems.
The Local Authority considers this award not only as a major milestone but also as a motivation to further strengthen and expand innovative approaches aimed at improving service delivery to residents.
Chipata City Council reaffirms its commitment to transparency and prudent management of public resources and will continue to promote the use of the electronic payment (e-payment) system currently in place.
Some of the participating countries was South Africa, Tanzania, Nigeria, Kenya and Uganda among others.
The award was officially received by Chipata City Mayor, His Worship George Mwanza, from the Acting Town Clerk, Mr. Donald Mwanza, who represented the Council at the conference in Eswatini.
